History
Great Lakes Barn Preservation, LLC was founded by Sam Stitt III a second generation Barnwright in 1974. Sam and his wife Peggy have worked as a team for over 30 years. They focused the first six years of their business on painting barns. Then in 1980, there was a demand for major barn repairs throughout the State of Michigan. Their passion for preserving timber frame structures has led to complete barn preservation and barn moving. The traditional tenon and mortise timber frame structure held together with wooden pegs is a skill that Sam III has passed on to his sons Brad and Sam IV. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are also being passed on to Sam IV sons Maverick and Sam V as they work along side their dad and grandfather in order to preserve the history of these powerful structures that stand as symbols of our great heritage.
